poor /pɔ:(r)/

adj. 贫穷的；可怜的；差的
用：“the + 形容词”表示作为整体的“某一类人”
如：the poor 指“穷人”，有类似用法的形容词还有dead, sick, blind, young, old, rich等。此类词作主语时，谓语动词应使用复数形式。
例：Can you believe that in such a rich country there are so many poor people? 在如此富裕的国家里竟然有那么多的穷人，你能相信吗？
补：poorly(adv. 糟糕地)

dull /dʌl/

adj. 单调无味的；阴暗的；迟钝的
例：Written communications can often read as cold and dull. 文字交流通常读起来冷淡、无聊。(2020年全国卷2) // a dull child 一个反应迟钝的孩子
